Unsurprisingly, I'm a beekeeper

I keep bees in a few apiaries around Drogheda, Co. Louth. Most of my bees are in Co. Louth, although I have a few hives just over the border in Co. Meath. I keep around 20 hives - this number varies depending on whether I combine hives, split them, catch swarms, etc., but I prefer not having too many since then it becomes real work.

I am the current treasurer of Co. Louth Beekeepers' Association which is affiliated to the Federation of Irish Beekeepers' Associations (FIBKA).

I am a strong supporter of the idea that beekeepers should learn as much as possible about both their craft, and their bees. I have taken the Intermediate and Senior exams from FIBKA, and have completed the Diploma in Apiculture from the University of Galway.
