Lectures

I'm happy to visit your beekeeping association or, indeed, any group, to deliver a lecture on bees and beekeeping. Some of the subjects I'll talk about are below, although I can talk on any facet of this are that might interest you.
Topics I have recently spoken on include
- Honey Bee Communication: swarms.
- Mind Your Beeswax!
Hive products for fun and profit - how to harvest and exploit your wax. - The Endocrine System & Fat Body
- Honey Bee Internals
- Really Simple Genetics
- Mendelian Genetics
Explains how bees initiate a swarm and continue it until they reach their new home, with an emphasis on the communications involved.
How to collect and process wax from your bees, and what to make with it.
Quite an in-depth look at the bee's glands and the hormones they produce, including a look at the fat body.
A lightning tour of the bee's internal anatomy.
As the name indicates, this is a very high-level explanation of the honey bee's genetics as it pertains to beekeeping. The goal of this is to make any beekeeper aware of what they should be aware of when thinking of queen-rearing.
A rather advanced introduction to genetics, substantially more complex than the one above.
